Growing up online

1. I dont spend very much time on computers because they don't interest me.  I probably spend half an hour a day online for downloading music and doing homework.  I actually spend more time on the computer in internet class than I do at home.  I no longer use a social networking site because I think they are a waste of time.

2. Their community was kind of like ours, but I personally don't know anybody who takes it to the extreme like some of those kids did. Other than that I think they had the average community.

3. Alot of students nowadays are using microsoft word and microsoft powerpoint.  i think that microsoft word will always be the standard for writing papers, but powerpoint is very effective because it allows people to make powerpoints on their computer without having to go through a bunch of difficult steps. Also many kids are using youtube videos in their presentations to show how things work.  This is useful because youtube is a very accessible site that has quality videos.  I think that kids in middle school try out all these things because they are interested in making their presentations fun and unique, while elementary students are too young for the technology, and high school students try to make things simple on themselves by not using it as much.

4. With myspace and facebook it is your own, but it gives you the oppurtunity to share who you are with the entire world.  This appeals to people because they like finding out what people are like at their school, getting attention, and meeting new people.

5. The girls who were in the fight are probably embarassed because it is embarrassing to get worked up like that over something so dumb.  Although they probably thought it was dumb the other students probably thought it was hilarious because they see a bunch of snobby girls having a verbal war in the lunch room.  But if I were a foreign exchange student coming to the school from a different country I would not want to come here because I dont want people to act that way when they are around me.

6. Some people might get the idea that they are famous because of the internet and act like they are famous.  This isnt fair to the people who actually have talent and work their way to the top, because random people now can upload videos on the internet for millions worldwide to see. This has the potential to be really bad because teens can upload pornographic images of themselves online for all eyes to see.

7.  I think that as long as the teenager is not hurting anyone or themself, the parent shouldnt worry too much about it.  I don't think that keeping the computer in the living room does anything except invade privacy because all the computer does is make things easier, if a teenage girl wanted to meet an older man im sure that it wouldn't be too hard to find one down at washington park.  I think that letting kids have freedom on the computer is the answer because they like to rebel, and most teens wouldn't do half the things they do if it werent for rebellion.

8. Online, things can be misinterpreted, so maybe the kids thought that she was just flirting with them.  But if that werent the case and the girl were serious, the girl is a horrible person and doesn't deserve to live. By doing that, she can cause the teenage boys to have false hope, which later turns out to be a lie, and this can cause the boys to become extremely depressed and want to commit suicide.

7.2.  Really for me it wouldnt be that difficult to disconnect from a computer because i hate computers.  I use a computer the least amount possible already, but a cell phone would be difficult because I wouldnt know how to get a hold of my friends or my work.
